Papa’s Love

Never underestimate the love of a Papa or a Grandma. My Dad sent Whitney an email yesterday. I think the impact of this one email is going to be one of the defining moments of her life. When I told her Papa sent her an email tonight, her jaw dropped. Then she said, "For the other girls too?" "Nope. Just for you."

Dear Whitney

I thought of you a lot while I was on vacation last week.

I kept hearing this pretty song and you kept coming to my mind.

It is called Precious Jewels and is sung by Alison Krause.

I got a note that said you loved me and that made me sooo happy, thank you.

Well you know your papa loves you very much.

When He cometh, when He cometh
To take up his jewels
All his jewels, precious jewels
His Loved and His own.

Like the stars of the morning
His bright crown adorning
They will shine in their beauty
Bright jems for his crown.

He will gather, He will gather
The jems for His kingdom
All the pure ones, all the bright ones
His loved and His own.

Like the stars of the morning
His bright crown adorning
They will shine in their beauty
Bright jems for his crown.

Little children, little children
O love their Redeemer
All the jewels, precious jewels
His loved and His own.

Like the stars of the morning
His bright crown adorning
They will shine in their beauty
Bright jems for his crown

The gift of my parents love to my own children is beyond what words can describe. The words of my own Grandmother are embedded in my brain…."You are something special. You are the only one of a kind. God has a purpose for you." And now, to see my Mom and Dad do that for my children, and to see the impact on them is the greatest gift I could ask for.

Whitney wept when she listened to this song. She is 7 years old, but, somehow the depth of the beauty of the song mixed with the knowledge of her Papa’s special love for her touched her at the deepest place, and she wept.

In all my years of parenting, I don’t know if I have ever been so profoundly moved. I am amazed by God and the way his love reaches my children and changes them. I am so glad I am a Mommy tonight.
