Last Chance to Eat a 16 Year Old Twinkie

photo (10)

Rob and I have had these Twinkies in our freezer since the month of our wedding, March 1993.  We were doing youth ministry back then, and somehow we got on the topic of Twinkies with a group of kids.  We were talking about the shelf life…wondering if the rumors were true.  Would a Twinkie taste the same in 15 years as it would fresh out of the box?

Guess what we got as a wedding gift?  Yep, a box of Twinkies.  It’s been 16 years.  Why didn’t we eat them at 15 years?  We’re chickens.

I think there were originally 8 Twinkies in the box, but a few hungry babysitters have ignored the WARNING DO NOT EAT, SCIENCE PROJECT signs all over the box and ate them.  They are not dead.

I dare you.

Anyone up for it?

I’m not.

And why is this your last chance?

Because I am so sick of them taking up space in my freezer, that’s why.

Oh, that’s very funny, Michelle. Go ahead and eat them. I dare you!
Your post reminded me of one of my proudest “mommy moments” when my then-six-year-old daughter (my oldest) looked at me and asked, “Mom, what’s a Twinkie?” 🙂 I think I may have bought two boxes in my kids’ lifetimes.

did you post this just for me?
whenever it’s been asked “is that edible,” one human trash can has been called upon for the greater good.
I’d consider it a priveledge to answer such a noble question that is, “what IS the shelf life of a twinkie?”
i’ve also never been able to resist when someone says, “if you don’t eat it, i’m just gonna throw it away.”

Somehow I find it hard to believe that Rob won’t take the double-dog dare and bite into one! Just for the cause of science??!!

  • DisneyCyndi Says:

Ok, after the post about parenting you two are too chicken to eat a couple of old twinkies? I double dog dare you. LOL

  • Mo Says:

That is awesome : ) No. I would not, could not. But I think you have a taker in Jason.

  • Faye Says:

The mileage isn’t an issue. I won’t volunteer because I don’t like ’em to start with! I agree with Mo, though, sounds like Jason will be visiting your place soon!

  • Michelle Wegner Says:

    Jason,
My girls said to me (even before you replied) “Who would ever eat those?”
    I replied, “I know a guy.”
    They’re here waiting!
