Some Stories Just Need To Be Told

There are some stories you read or see on TV that stick with you.  Rob and I watched a documentary on National Geographic last night about Hitler’s Hidden Holocaust, where over a million and a half Jews were rounded up and murdered in their own towns by the Germans, but mostly by their own neighbors from the before the war began until it ended.  In one village, the Jews had lived as a population of 3000 or so since the 1600’s.  They lived a peaceful existence.  Hitler just wanted them gone.

I couldn’t sleep last night.  I was telling my Dad about it this morning, so I thought the best way to tell you about it would be to copy our conversation.  I got his permission, but apparently I need to start advertising or something on this site, because he said all his conversations are copyrighted.

Don’t read this if you’re a kid, or have a weak disposition.

There were 2 National Geographic shows on last night about WW2
You would have liked them a lot, although the second one was highly disturbing
disturbing

Dad says:
we don’t get National Geographic
wish we did!

Michelle says:
I think the 2nd one was called "Hitler’s hidden Holocaust"
about the mass graves and shootings that happened throughout Europe and Russia
they went and interviewed little old Russian men and women who were children at the time and were witnesses to it all
unbelievable

Dad says:
oh wow

Michelle says:
These people live in such tiny villages that no one had ever really interviewed them about what happened in their villages

Dad says:
I have seen some TV programs like that
wow

Michelle says:
so, lots of stories that have never been told

Dad says:
maybe they put their TV programs on line

Michelle says:
and they found hundreds and hundreds of photos a journalist took of these people groups minutes before the shootings
again, unbelievable
and filmstrips that someone took

Dad says:
you didn’t have dreams did you?

Michelle says:
very creepy
no, but it did take me awhile to get to sleep
so disturbing
but, I am so glad these people are telling their stories

Dad says:
those stories need to live forever

Michelle says:
One old man was actually thrown into the pit by his father as his father was shot.
the father landed on top of him, so he lived

Dad says:
how awful
oh my

Michelle says:
the man was telling the story as if it had happened yesterday

Dad says
I cant imagine that

Michelle says:
yeah, I can’t imagine how he survived, they never told the end of the story
this all happened before the war too, so he still had to survive the holocaust w/out his family

Dad says:
wow
maybe you can research him

Michelle says:

yeah, I have heard of several Holocaust survivors lately that are telling stories that they never have
because they know their time is short
and their stories have to be told

Dad says:
sure

Michelle says:
one friend of ours told us that his Grandfather was part of the French Resistance, and has his memoirs written, but will not release them until after he has died

Dad says:
like WWII vets,we lose 1200 a day
its must be so hard to live with

Michelle says:
yep
I’ll check if it’s online somewhere

Dad says:
ok thanks
