My First Car

1977 Chevrolet Chevette1977 Chevrolet Chevette

Thanks to Dan Vukmirovich’s Question of the day on Facebook, I was immediately launched to a wonderful memory.  This was my first car.  Not really…I don’t have any real photo’s of that wonderful car.  It was a 1977 Chevy Chevette.  It was copper, and I loved it.  My brother had to nail cookie sheets to the floor on the driver’s side, so rain and snow wouldn’t get my feet wet anymore.  My best friend in high school owned a brand new, red Camaro, which her dad got her for her 16th birthday.  I remember the first day I drove my new ride to school.  I was so proud to be driving…anything.  I parked next to my friend, and I remember her laughing and laughing.  Not in a mean way, but in a fun way.  She was happy for me, as I was just plain happy.  I loved that car!

Car Talk 2000

Tom: The fifth Worst Car of the Millennium is the Chevy Chevette. As one reader described it: "An engine surrounded by four pieces of drywall." Ouch!

Ray: Here’s another happy owner’s assessment: "Plywood floor, printed-circuit wiring, no redeeming qualities. It was a throw-away from the word go."

I loved that car…Seriously!
