My tendency my entire life has been to push my way to the front, elbowing my way all the way to get my way. I am only just now learning that sitting on the sidelines and in the shadows is actually the most rewarding place to be. When someone I love accomplishes something and I can stand back and watch them glow, I find real joy; But, I fight this every day.
I want to be awesome. I want to be in the front of the line. I want to sweet-talk my way to the top. I want to get ahead. Every day I need God's help to remind me that "shadow living" is actually pretty cool. It is amazing to watch those I care about and love succeed. I want to live my life seeing that happen again and again.
Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand. ~Philippians 2:3-4
