While I Travel…

Miss Isabelle has been my “random generator” for choosing numbers.  Congrats to Dan Clark!

I’ll be sending you the info on how to redeem your prize soon!

Laptop Messenger Bag I mentioned yesterday that I am in Mexico right now. Travelling through airports is fun and exciting. Travelling through airports in India is always an adventure.  Add three children to the mix, and there is bound to be a story to tell at the end of the day.  One of my least favorite memories is an airport security person x-raying Belle’s backpack full of toys and trinkets, pulling it aside, and dumping about 300 Polly Pocket shoes, purses, arms, legs, and sparkly dresses out in front of me, and giving me about 20 seconds to re-pack it all in her bag.  Not a very nice thing to do.

On this last trip, an airport security person decided she was going to check inside of all our carry on bags.  When travelling internationally, one quickly learns that there is no possible way to have a laptop messenger bag, back pack, toiletry bag, bag for clothes, etc.  Everything gets crammed into one bag and that’s the way it is.  Well, this wonderful security agent told us repeatedly, “This is not a laptop bag!  You can not carry your computer in a back pack.  I will not let you through with this bag.””

We just stared at her, wondering what in the world she wanted us to do.  She was apparently very passionate about it, and declared that it was against airline regulations to allow passengers on a plane without a proper laptop bag.

It was crazy. I think Gene played some sort of mind trick on her, because after about 15 minutes of discussion, she allowed us to pass through security with our horribly packed laptops.

Travelling is an adventure!  Always a story to tell, that’s for sure.

Thanksgiving Giveaway

This Give Away Is Now Closed

Congrats to Commenter #8 Ryan Devries

(chosen randomlyby a very scientific method via Isabelle Wegner)

The time has come once again for us to gather around tables of food piled to the ceiling with delightful goodness.  Rob and I have the privilege of celebrating with both sides of our families in one day—that’s right!  Two delicious, amazing Thanksgiving meals in one day. Rob’s sister’s house is much quieter.  The table is set elegantly, dining chairs match the tablecloth and gold silverware and plates.  Everything is beautiful.

Both families celebrate the same holiday in very different ways.  My mom and dad’s house is full from end to end-busting at the seams with 13 kids, 10 adults, and turkey and stuffing to our heart’s delight.

We try to pace ourselves through the first meal at my Mom and Dad’s house, but it’s pointless.  I have learned to throw caution to the wind and just enjoy.

We all know the point of Thanksgiving is not the food, but the spirit of gratitude.  It’s a time to sit back with tummies full of stuffing and mashed  potatoes with gravy and remember why we are thankful.  I thought I’d get an early start this year and do a give away because I am thankful for YOU!

Knowing someone is reading my blog really makes me happy and grateful.  It helps me to know that my thoughts and words mean something to someone.

For this giveaway, I am giving a $35 gift card to CSN stores.  Leave me a comment and tell me something you are thankful for this year.  Celebrate gratitude, and I hope you win!

Subscribing to this blog via Google reader or email, or whatever service you use will gain you TWO extra entries.  Just let me know you did!

Tweeting or Facebooking this contest will gain you ONE extra entry.

Giveaway will start Sunday, November 7and a winner will be randomly chosen on Monday morning November 15.

It’s Give Away Time Again!

This contest is now closed.

Congrats to: Lisa V., our fabulous winner for today.

Java Graphite Dinnerware Collection

Are your dinnerware sets as pathetic as mine?  For me, eating is the priority, not usually what the food is placed on.  I know this is a big deal to some, so because I love my bloggy readers so much, I am offering a $20 giftcard from CSN stores so you can choose something delightful from their dinnerware sets .

Do you need an individual place setting? A full dinnerware set? An individual plate, bowl or mug ?  It’s all there.

This time, to enter the give away, I thought it would be fun if you would share a comment about a dinner you’ve hosted that particularly sticks out in your memory.  Was it good? Bad? Embarrassing? Share a few sentences and you’ll be entered to win the $20 gift card.

If you’d like to be entered more than once, you can:

  1. Leave more than one comment, (sharing more than one story)
  2. Twitter about this blog post (then let me know by leaving a comment here, or a tweet on twitter)
  3. Share about this give away on your Facebook wall (an)d let me know, because I might miss it.
  4. If you are not tech-savy, and get stressed out about leaving a comment, you can tell me a story in person (imagine that, face to face communication), and I will enter you here.

Go check out these cute dinnerware sets!

Good luck friends, and may the best story win! You’ll be chosen by random generator to win on Monday, August 2, 2010.

Bamboo Cutting Board Give Away

African Kalahari Cutting Board

I’ve been browsing around CSN stores lately, and they have some seriously neat stuff.  We just remodeled our kitchen, and they have some great ideas for Lighting.  In looking around our kitchen, there is always something else we need.  One of the things that has since broken in the 17 years we have been married is our cutting board.  I saw this African Bamboo one, and loved it.  Instead of selfishly hoarding it, I thought I would treat you to something special and give it away to one of you, my faithful and kind readers.  You have given me so much in your words and encouragement, I want to give something back to you.

I’m doing a give-away!  I don’t do them often, but this opportunity came along at the perfect time.  Here’s the deal:

I just moved my blog over from Typepad to this new and improved site at WordPress, so I need to get the word out about the move.  You will be entered into the give away for this fabulous bamboo cutting board one time for each of the following:

  • Subscribe to this blog via email or a reader, and leave a comment to let me know.
  • Update on Twitter or Facebook with a link to this post, then leave a comment to let me know
  • Link to this post from your blog or website, then leave a comment.
  • Any other creative idea you can think of to link or draw attention to this fabulous give away

Who wouldn’t need or want this great African bamboo cutting board? This would make a great gift for your Mom for Mother’s day too!

Winner will be selected on Friday morning, April 23.

Thanks to the folks at CSN stores for supplying the goods for this give away!
