The Loss of a Gem

Rachel Our church family suffered a loss of unprecedented means this past week.  We lost a beautiful, precious woman of God whom we all loved and adored.  Rachel Ort Leazenby was a gem.  She was tragically killed on Christmas Eve as she was simply making a left turn in her car.  Her injuries were so severe that she died instantly.

Rachel was a special friend to my 10 year old daughter Maddie.  She had a gift for photography, so when she saw Maddie taking photos at a Second Saturday, Rachel took Maddie under her wing and taught Maddie a lot about taking pictures. They became fast friends. She was kind and patient.  Maddie adored her.  We did too.  Everyone who knew Rachel knew pure joy.

What do we say when someone so precious, so young, so beautiful is taken from us in such a tragic way?  Our hearts are heavy with grief.  I have caught myself at the brink of emotional breakdown over and over again in the past few days.

We are holding each other a lot closer.  Treasuring every moment we have together.  Praying for Rachel's family.  Clinging to Jesus, and clinging to each other.
